Before the sale of the SG50 toys, we need to give them a "clothing" .😉 Pretty much with recycled materials are all we need- Papers, box, plastic(bag), etc. As for this case, papers or box are the recommendation for toy packaging. First of all, an idea/ideas of the packaging. Browsing through the net with all kinds of results with the keyword "recycled materials packaging" and "creative packaging", I finally found what I wanted; saving pictures of them and then deciding which one to use in the end, deleting those that are impossible currently. I figured I could use more than one idea-Three. The first one has a milk package with paper hands and legs, the latter includes a transparent plastic sheet on a fruit package, lastly, a match box design(which I came up with myself). I got my hand on a box package from my dad, cut it into smaller pieces according the to measurement I did on a piece of paper(actually an A3 paper, by accident... Wasted one whole sheet of A3 paper with just some measurement informations...😭), which took up more time than I expected, where I spent my whole evening doing just the measurement on where to cut, when there's only 10 pieces to cut out. 6 of these pieces have a two side tags which connects to the other 4 pieces; as I've mentioned, a match box design, consisting of an inner and an outer box.;Using 3 pieces with two tags and 2 pieces of the normal ones to form the inner and another 3 and 2 pieces respectively for the outer box. Little did I know that even thought the specific measurements, I was oblivous to the fact that using a glue roller to connect the cut outs wasn't a nice idea- The unstable cut outs fell out countless time, pretty irritating, considering how much time I've invested in this project but ending up with this matter disrupting me from finishing the packaging. Thankfully, it came to me that a transparent tape would do the job. Incorporating both the strength of glue roller and the tape, it's as stable as it is, for now. It doesn't end here. I still got to decorate the package.(Oh, and I've aborted the "transparent sheet" idea on my box.) After some time colouring the whole thing red, then the implementation of the legs and hands, and a speciality from me- the head. 😎 Now, the package is as interesting and chubby as it should be~ 😎😎. For now, I await for the recognition of the toy an the package :D Hope it turns out well. :3
This year, 2015, marks the 50th birthday of Singapore-SG50. An art task was issued out-To design a mini figurine/toy. We were told that reference can be make from our previous art work-Toy design. We were forbidden to create a design that already existed such as Mega man, Spongebob. However, one could use these/this character(s) features to create another unique design. By using the characteristic of the character like pattern, shape, mood. As for me, my original toy has a cute feature (two dot as eyes), curvy smooth surface, soft, without any complex patterns. Simple toy. With some of these features implemented, moreover the features adapted from other few characters- Mega Man, Black Mage, Mario, Iron Man and ninja. The toy design turned into a character full of mystic and sneakiness. With several features that made it an advanced cyborg-Flight from feet, projectiles from hands, an extreme hearing device that can detect anything as far as give kilometers, with glowing eyes that can analyse one's mind and power, seeing through the future, the power of any ninjas, and the ability to obtain any weaponary from the defeat of any robot enemies. This robot serves an important message for Singapore- To remain strong and defensive, it's variety of colours represents being united to be invincible to all kinds of threat. The design were completed, maybe there should be more different vibrant colours like violet. Now, to wait for the arrival of the real figurine... This will be exciting. Finally! The figurines were here! Unfortunately, the anticipations were largely disappointed due to the toy being smaller than the depicted size in our drawing template. Almost two times as small! It will be hard to draw the details. As mentioned by the teachers, we have to be more cautious on all the details. On the bright side, we do not have to paint so much on this small SG50 figurine. We were informed that the deadline is due two weeks after, however, it was supposed to be one week due to the toy to be issued next week. Our teacher wanted to give us more time to complete the figurines, so we were given one week earlier-Week 8. The toy is detachable, literally all the limbs. Hopefully, it will be easier for us to paint. Finally, the painting for the toy is done! After a long day of work(Precisely, two days) of mistakes and frustrations, but the toy looked pretty corrupted due to the paint taking quite a long time to dry up. As seen above the pic, I had applied thick layers of paint for some parts of the toy's body. It does not look that vibrant anymore... Although it was considered dry, the paint still sticks, thus sticking colours to other parts. That was one of the many reasons I hate painting. At least, I have successfully completed the toy! I wondered how the others been doing with the toy. I sure hope mine is not the ugliest.
The art homework was fairly simple, but I took 4 hours or more usually when I'm doing art. Afterall, art via Sketching is a talent AD hobby of mine, no way would I anyway sketch the bottles. As mentioned, the first task was just to draw bottle designs, while referring to a useless bottle we have chosen. (It may be simple, but I actually took so much time to draw it and "too small" was what I didn't expected. Redo was really tough •3•) Second task: Drawing Designs on the Template and creating a Mind-map.When the word that actually confused me- Template. I thought it was the piece of instruction given by my art teacher was the one. Giving a second thought, I went on asking people about where I should input my design on. Obviously, I realised it was impossible to sketch an artwork on the thin A4 paper(The instruction paper). I went on to ask my art teacher(Mdm Farah), that was when I got the correct information-design must be drawn on the Bottle Design A3 Paper itself :O. More mistakes were made when I just found out today that we were supposed to colour our artwork. "Oh my god" was all I thought. Thankfully, I have just the abundant time to complete the art piece.(Actually, I hoped someone could have reminded me in that .-. P.S I have a little poor hearing problem) Actually, I've been through all the art assignment with the thought of "iconic". Today was also the day I found out that we should be doing about personal preferences. Nooooo~ Luckily, I found out a way to make my already-done artwork into part personal preference and part iconic. It was quite a success(I guess), considering that I could easily pick out some of my personal preference from my should-be-iconic artwork (That is why you can see Merlion and Sentosa, etc in my Mind-map XD) Anyway, we were shone with amazement as we were showed several artworks of our fellow classmates. Well, especially Durratun's Mind-map- It was simplistic, tidy yet feels awesomely geometrical and incredible because of the many straight lines. Perhaps, I should do another Mind-map with some programmes like Microsoft PowerPoint, which is the most optimized for me.(Sometimes, art must be simple in order to look nice~) Tell you a fact(especially gamers ;P): There have been lots of geometric-based games lately getting "Editor's Choice" and several other achievements.Totally masterpiece yet just not too complex design, especially "Monument Valley". So far, I wanted to say "Good Job" to those who did whole-heartedly. It's "Mission Complete"! Nevertheless, keep up the good work so far and get another quality work on going for our NEXT MISSION: Improvise Your Artwork. I wish everyone luck and have a nice artwork finished by next week~ (And don't stress yourself 😨) 😃 Time sure slips faster than I thought; it's time to paint our bottle, and it's out final art piece for this topic! Today, 28/1, also the day where Art lesson took place, I've completed my bottle painting design! Colours were orderly "arranged". Guess what? I just found out that I seemed to improve in painting! :D What a reward for completing an art homework. XD It seems this year will be packed with improvements. Well, let's hope I can improve on my colouring tone. For now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be staring at my successful bottle design... :3 (Stares blankly* Oh no, I forgot the test for tomorrow!) |
